Elizabeth Ann Cooper was baptised on 20th April 1879 at South Hylton in the parish of Ford, County Durham. She was the youngest daughter of Elizabeth Jane Cooper, formerly Robinson, and her husband John George Cooper, a joiner. Young Elizabeth appears in both the 1881 and 1891 censuses living with her parents and siblings at Ferry Boat Row in South Hylton.
In 1898, aged 19, Elizabeth married a man named Joseph Edward Lucas, who was originally from North Shields in Northumberland. The 1901 census finds Elizabeth and Joseph and their young son Roger living with Elizabeth's parents in a four roomed house at Ferry Boat Row in South Hylton. At this time Joseph was working as a shipyard riveter.
Elizabeth father John died in 1906. After his death, Elizabeth's widowed mother continued to live with Elizabeth and Joseph. By the time of the 1911 census the family was living in a seven roomed house at 30 Wear Street in South Hylton. Joseph had also changed profession, becoming an insurance agent. At the time of the 1911 census the couple had had three children, all of whom were still living.
Elizabeth has yet to be researched after 1911.
