Eliza Pestell was baptised on 19th July 1833 at Hitchin in Hertfordshire, daughter of Frances Pestell, formerly Everitt, and her third husband William Pestell. By the time Eliza was born, Frances was 42 years old and already a grandmother. Frances died in 1836, when Eliza was two years old. Her father then moved to the neighbouring village of Ickleford, where Eliza died as a young girl of just five years old, being buried at Ickleford on 22nd February 1839.
