- Will of Frances (Dickinson) Gartin Brown, dated 1 May 1824 and probated 14 Mar 1825, Todd Co., KY, Bk. A, pg. 271, names her sons Elijah, Nathaniel, Griffith, and William Gartin, daughters Frances Shanklin and Elizabeth Douglas, the heirs of Richard and Uriah Gartin, and her son John Brown Jr.
Notes
- Elijah Gartin, father of Richard who married Anna Kincaid, was granted 154 acres, Dry River and Muddy Creek, adjoining Bryan Muncy, 12 Nov 1768 (Rockingham Co., Book O of Abstracts of Surveys, p. 119). Elijah died in 1774/5 in Augusta Co. intestate, apparently after a long illness. There is a record of the inventory and sale of Elijah's property on 13 Oct 1775 "at auction", in the 20 May 1777 Court Records, Augusta County, Book 5, p. 500. I do not know who actually ended up with his land. His widow Frances Dickinson Garton m. John Brown on 25 Aug 1778 in Rockingham Co., VA.
