    Southampton established as second precinct of Northampton 23 Jul 1741 on petition of 35 freeholders, one of whom was Eleazer Hannum. In 1760 John and Eleazer Hannum settled on plateau next to where Easthampton would be. In 1785 selected one of the first selectmen of new town of Easthampton.
