Disputed Lineages
There is much disagreement between sources regarding the mother(s) of Edward's children. Flower in his 1563-4 Visitation of Yorkshire gives Elizabeth Vaughan as the mother of Thomas, doesn't mention Ann Harrington, and makes Mary and Elizabeth illegitimate. Dugdale in his 1664-5 Visitation of Lancashire gives Anne Harrington as the mother of Thomas and Elizabeth, and has Elizabeth Vaughan as without issue. Baines in his history of Lancashire, Burke's Extinct Peerage, and Pollard's article in the original Dictionary of National Biography seem to follow Dugdale in making Anne the mother of Edward's children. The 107th edition of Burke (as cited by Lundy) gives no children to Anne Harrington, makes Elizabeth Vaughan the mother of Thomas, and makes Edward, Mary, and a second Thomas illegitimate.
