His mother died when he was six and his dad remarried when he was seven to Caroline Riesland. They had six children; Emma, John, Samuel, Dora, Oma, and Frank.

Marriages and children

Edward married Jennie in 1883, before his uncle Frank was born. Suffering complications from the birth of John, Jennie died in 1885. Edward remarried in 1887 to Hannah Vaughn. They had five children; Charles, Ralph, Grant, Hugh, and Louis.
