"163. Capt. Edward Phelps, b. Windsor, Ct., 1697, … Capt. Phelps settled in Harwinton for a time, and was one of the first settlers of Litchfield, Ct., where he died 3rd May, 1790, in his 93rd year.

Capt. Phelps' will dated 26 Nov., 1773, and proved 2 June, 1790, in Litchfield Probate, gives his son Edward, lands in Litchfield and Salisbury, and refers to daughter Deborah, wife of Alexander McNeil, and Mindwell, wife of George Catlin, and refers to Ebenezer, Samuel, Ashbel, Truman, Marsh, sons of Ebenezer Marsh, dec., and daughter Lucia."
