Facts and Events
Edward Newborn's early life is unknown. His first confirmed sighting is in 1701, when he married Ann Algate at Barnack in Northamptonshire. It is quite possible that he was from Barnack - the parish registers there only survive from 1696, such that if he or Ann had been baptised there the record of that fact would now be lost. Fifteen months after their marriage, Edward and Ann had a son, whom they called Francis. Two and a half years later, he was followed by Edward. However, Edward died when only a few days old, and four months after Edward's death, Francis also died, aged three. Thus, Edward and Ann went from briefly having had two children to having no surviving children. A year after Francis's death, they had a daughter, Ann, but she too was to die young, aged 2, in 1709. Edward and Ann were childless again. From 1711 the couple's fortunes appear to have improved. They had a daughter in 1711 and sons in 1713 and 1717, all of whom survived childhood. They named each of these children after one of those they had lost. Edward died in 1739. His age is not recorded, but it was over 37 years since his marriage, suggesting he was at least 55 years old.
