Edith stopped school in 1919 because of health problems (epilepsy). She left Brown County for the Abilene State School in 1929, where she died in 1937. Joe B Ashley received by telegraph some money from brothers, sisters, and Daddy. He borrowed from the bank to pay the rest of the funeral expense. He and Clair Bettis rode to Abilene in a Mitcham hearse to bring Edith home. Some years later, her mother was buried beside her, in Blanket cemetery.
