Pioneer Braodcaster Dwight Meade Dies
Danvers, Mass. (UP) -- Dwight A. Meade, 78, a pioneer radio broadcasterin New England died Monday at Hunt Memorial Hospital after a longillness.
He, his wife, Doris, and their daughter, Dorothy, appeared on the radioseries "Harvey and Dell" which was on a nationwide network (CBS).

"Jane Eyre" last Thursday evening attracted an audience which nearly filled the opera house. It was a high-class, affecting drama presented by a strong cast of talented players, and all who heard it were more than pleased. Dwight A Mead, who played the important part of Rochester is, by the way, a cousin of Arthur Maitland and Mr. (sic - should be Mrs.) Fred Zwiger of Sycamore. His home is at Elgin, where his mother, Mrs. Jennie Mead, resides.

Harvey and Dell. This unusual soap opera spotlighted members of anactual family who portrayed people bearing their surname. It relatedincidents in the lives of the three-member Meade clan -- Harvey, thefather, played by Dwight Meade; Dell, the mother, played by Doris Meade;and their daughter, Dorothy, played by Dorothy Meade. The serial beganon 1 August 1939 as a weekday feature on NBC Blue, adding a ssixthbroadcast every week on 18 March 1940. On 18 October 1940, the show wasreduced to a quarter-hour on Saturday mornings only, a run that extendedthrough 2 May 1941. It was off the air for nearly a year, returning onCBS Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings for a quarter-hour from 8April-6 May 1942. At that juncture, it aired five weekday mornings, from1 June-24 July 1942. General Mills partially underwrote what had been asustaining deathure starting 20 June 1942.
