Obituary of Richard Donald McLuen [funeral program] Richard Donald was born February 10, 1912 at Dale City, Iowa to John A. and Maude (Miller) McLuen. He passed away June 30, 1991 at the Guthrie County Memorial Hospital in Guthrie Center after suffering a heart attack. Don’s early education was received in country school and he graduated from Stuart High School in 1929. On September 6, 1935 he was married to Darlene Thompson in Des Moines and three daughters were born to this union. For 36 years he farmed in the Dale City area, retiring and moving to Stuart in 1971. Don was also employed by the Guthrie County ASCS office and received a pin for 40 years of service. Upon moving to Stuart, Don and Darlene opened a children’s day care center and have operated it for the last 20 years. He was known as Ampoo to his grandchildren and many other children in the community. His main interest in life was his family and he was an avid sports enthusiast. Don was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Wayne and a half sister, Helen Ruth. Surviving are his wife, Darlene, three daughters, Barbara, Diana, and Carla and seven grandchildren, Gina, Nicole, Darrick, Amber, Angela, Crystal and John, a sister, Mona Sellman of Guthrie Center, his stepmother, Bessie McLuen of Pella, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Rev. George Thurman officiated at the funeral service on July 2, 1991 at Link Funeral Home in Stuart. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Donna Belle Miller. Casket bearers were Rick Rilea, Arnold Lewis, John Slayton, Larry Bryan, Russ Jones, and LeRoy Montanye. Interment was in the Morrisburg Cemetery, Gutherie County, Iowa.

    Obituary: STUART, IA--Donald R. McLuen, 79, of Stuart died of a heart atack Sunday at Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Link Funeral Home, with burial in Morrisburg Cemetery in rural Stuart. Mr. McLuen was born in Dale City and moved to Stuart upon retirement in 1971. He was a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; three daughters,, Barbara of Ankeny, Diana Nelson of Stuart and Ettore of Casey; a sister, Mona Sellman of Guthrie Center; and seven grandchildren. Friends may call after 9 a.m. today a the funeral home. No family visitation is scheduled.
