In 1953, Rocky River Friends Meeting celebrated it's 200th anniversary. Until the year 1753, Rocky River Friends had been attending Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, which was set up in 1751. In 1753, they asked permission at the Quarterly Meeting to set up their own Meeting, and received permission to do so. However the Rocky River Meeting remained a part of Cane Creek for more than a century. The Monthly Meeting records show the following who were prominent in the first century: Jeremiah Piggott (later changed family name to Pickett), Thomas Vestal, Joseph Kemp, Stephen Hobson, Issac Hobson, John Carter, David Vestal, William Lackey, Joseph Hobson, and Henry Jones. In 1792, when the Meeting needed land, David Vestal deeded a tract to Rocky River. The church is located on Route 4, Siler City, midway between Siler City and Liberty in Chatham County.
