Soldier Gives His Life for Country - Was Acting as Guard at Washington

Private David Morrison Pattison, son of M/M Charles a. Pattison of Youngstown Road, died Friday afternoon at 4:30 at Washington DC of pneumonia. A delayed telegram stating that he was seriously ill was received by his parents, Saturday morning and they left Saturday evening for his bedside but their son had died before they left home.

Private Pattison enlisted in the service of his country in July 1917 and received his training at Paris Island, SC where he had been stationed until he became a member of the guard at the State War and Navy Building in Wash DC. He belonged to 148 Co Headquarters, US Marine Corps.

David Morrison Pattison was born Dec 18, 1894. He attended New Castle High School being a member of the class of 1914. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and always took an active part in church work. He was married Sept 17 to Miss Margarette Roberts of Wash DC who survives together with his father and mother, 2 sisters, Mary and Pearl, and brother Roy all at home. The body will arrive in New Castle on Tuesday morning at 6:10. Funeral announcements will be made later. (His death may have been caused by Spanish influenza which appears as the newspapers state to have been an epidemic of this time.)

The Spanish-American War Veterans and Lawrence Rifles met the funeral party at the entrance to the cemetery and formed an escort to the grave where they had charge.
