  2.   Battle, J.H. History of Todd County, Kentucky.

ANDREW NEWTON MOORE. The worthy subject of this sketch was born June 2, 1840, on the family homestead, where he now resides, in Todd County, Ky. His father, John Moore, was born in 1799, in Augusta County, Va.; after the death of his wife, removed to Tennessee, remained there one year, and then came to Todd County, Ky., about 1808 [sic, since Narcissa's daughter Sarah is age 15 in 1850 census, it would appear 1828 is intended?], where he died in 1882. He was the son of David Moore, Jr., a Virginian, who purchased this tract of land in 1804, and died here in 1826, at the age of sixty-two years. David, Jr.'s wife was Jennie McClung. David, Jr., was the son of David, Sr., whose wife was Miss Evans. David, Sr.'s father was Andrew Moore, who went from Scotland to Ireland, and thence to America. His wife was Miss Baxter. Subject's mother, Narcissa, daughter of Ransom, and Sarah (Foster) Tinsley, died in 1876, at the age of sixty-seven years. Her union with John Moore was blessed with the following-named children: Sarah J. (Chiles), David T. Andrew N., William D., Samuel T. and Mattie V. Mr. Andrew N. Moore obtained a good education, at select schools, and at Bethel College; is a man of extensive reading in standard books, and current literature. He was married March 24, 1864, to Miss Sallie F., daughter of James and Nancy (Pendleton) Grady, of Todd County, Ky., and from this union sprang: M. Jennie, born August 29, 1866 (deceased); William N., August 10, 1868; Nannie G., July 18, 1870 (deceased); Lucy May, January 21, 1872, and Johnnie, June 4, 1874 (deceased). Mr. Moore is by vocation a farmer, owning about 600 acres of valuable and productive land in a high state of cultivation, and in fine condition. On the place are numerous living springs, and each plat of ground is arranged with such forethought and skill that stock may have access to pure water, from any one field, during the pasturing season. Spring Creek also passes through the place, which greatly enhances its value. Mr. Moore is living for his children, and takes a commendable interest in their education and advancement. He is a member of the Grange; also of the Baptist Church, and is identified with the Democratic party.
