Relationship to Patrick Martin
Patrick Martin, who settled in nearby Beverley Manor in 1740, witnessed the deed of James Martin, who received a patent from Benjamin Borden in 1742. This may indicate a possible relationship (brothers?), which needs additional sources to prove. There are very few records of James Martin in Chalkley's transcriptions, making it extremely difficult to prove any possible relationships.

Acquisition of Land from Orange County, Virginia Records:
- Pages 154-158. 2-3 July 1742. Benjamin Borden of Orange County, Gent., to James Martin of same, carpenter. Lease and release; for £22.11.3 current money. 752 acres on a branch of James River called Moffets Creek, part of 92,100 acres obtained by way of grant from the Governor and Councell... corner to John Shields' land... crossing the creek in Pattison's Meadow...
