Early Land Acquisition in Frederick County, VA
- On 17 October 1751, David Lewis, Jr. (b. 1725 c.) retained John Baylis to survey "400 acres where he (Lewis) lives on Mouth of Mill Creek on west side of Opechon and bought from Capt. Richard Magan (Morgan). A Fairfax grant was issued on 2 March 1753. (Tract 91B and 188, Map 4). [Source: Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia, by Cecil O'Dell, pg. 153].
- David (Lewis) Jr. (b. 1725) also had 164 acres adjacent south of his 400 acres on the west side of Opequon Creek and on Mill Creek surveyed on 29 March 1754, for which he received a Fairfax grant on 16 February 1764. [Source: Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia, by Cecil O'Dell, pg. 153].
Early Land Disposition in Frederick County, VA
- David Lewis sold 61-acres of his 164-acre grant on 6 August 1764 to Dr. John Briscoe for 500 pounds, and the remaining 103 acres were sold on 2 June 1766 to James Stewart for 50 pounds. [Source: Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia, by Cecil O'Dell, pg. 153].
- David (Lewis), Jr. and his wife Tabltha sold 145 acres of the 400-acre tract (Tract 188) on 1 August 1768 to John Briscoe for 100 pounds, and the remaining 225 acres on 12 December 1782 to their son David Lewis for 99 pounds, 10 shillings.
