David A. (Dave) is mentioned in the "Home Folks" family history that can be read in the "Historical Stories" section - see Table of Contents. It tells of Dave's service in the Confederate Army and that he was killed in this war. (I wonder about this as he is recorded with his family in the 1880 census below.)

David at 17 was in the 1850 Jackson Co, VA census living with Silas B. and Anne Taylor. I don't know if there was a family relationship with this couple or not. His Mother had died, his stepmother probably died (she's not in the census) and his younger siblings farmed out to other families. See his father, Daniel's Notes. Note census below says that David was born in Ohio.

It is of interest that for the birth record of his children Wilson and Eliza, David's post office address was "Ohio River'. It is very possible he was living on a river boat.
