DANIEL WATKINS was born in 1795 at Mason County, Kentucky. Thomas grew up as the youngest child in a large family of 9 boys and 3 girls. His family moved from Kentucky to Ohio when he was young, probably around 5 or 6 years old.

He married NANCY KELSEY, daughter of THOMAS KELSEY and ELIZABETH HANNAH MILES, circa 1818. The marriage date is chosen prior to the birth of their first son Abbot in 1819. They had a large family, with 11 children, 9 boys and two girls. He appeared on the census of 1820 at Washington Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. He appeared on the census of 1830 at Washington Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. Daniel and Nancy likely moved from Ohio to Indiana in 1831. Son George was born in Ohio in 1830. Son Charles was born in Indiana in 1832. He appeared on the census of 1840 at Scott Township, Montgomery County, Indiana. He and NANCY KELSEY appeared on the census of 1850 at Scott Township, Montgomery County, Indiana. He was a Farmer in 1860. He and NANCY KELSEY appeared on the census of Jul 1860 at Scott Township, Montgomery County, Indiana. He and NANCY KELSEY appeared on the census of 1870 at Clark Township, Montgomery County, Indiana.

He died after 1871. He has not been found in the 1880 census and likely died sometime between 1870 and 1880.
