A John R. SMITH, born 30 October 1837 in Alabama, son of William H. SMITH, also born in Alabama, married Martha A. Weathers. John R. SMITH went to Texas in 1869 from Alabama and settled in Coryell County, Texas. William H. SMITH was the son of John SMITH who was the only son of a Revolutionary soldier who was killed in the War. Could that have been Henery SMITH's son Daniel SMITH, who died from wounds received at the Battle of Stono? That Daniel SMITH is said to have had one son named John SMITH prior to his death. John SMITH may have preceded his uncle, Henery SMITH, Jr. to Georgia. Henery SMITH, Jr. moved to Georgia in 1796. James "Gideon" Smith, Henery Smith, Jr.'s nephew is also thought to have gone to Georgia, as explained on the Gideon Smith page, since Henry Smith, Jr. was the adminstrator of a Gideon Smith's estate which was only clothes, horse, saddle and bridle. The John SMITH mentioned above was a half-brother to Capt. Randle JONES and both served in the War of 1812. Captain Randall JONES commanded a Company during the War of 1812 in the 1st Regiment of Mississippi Militia. This Randall JONES was in Bastrop County, Texas in 1826. Capt. Randall JONES was born 19 August 1786 in Georgia. He died 1 June 1873 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. He was married to Mary "Polly" Andrus on 12 October 1824 by Stephen F. Austin. Randall JONES had a brother by the name of James W. JONES, born 13 January 1796, who went to Texas with him. Randall and James W. JONES were the sons of Thomas JONES who died in Georgia in 1805 and were by his second wife whose name is unknown. One of Thomas JONES' wives must have been the widow SMITH. 1 - Mrs. ?? 1st page of will-- the following notes & the transcription are the same for both citations. Henry Smith's will in the York County, South Carolina archives names wife, Amy, his sons: Abraham, David, John, Henry, Jonathan, William and mentions daughters married and single--Sarah Ramsay is mentioned by name. There is a grandson Henry Jolley who was given his mother's cows. Because Henry mentions twice "daughters, married and single", then he must have had at least 3 daughters, because at least two were married. Henry probably died about 1793- document provided by Guy R. Smith--see actual text & images in 2 citations-- the will is 2 pages long
