    Birth: Apr. 4, 1741, Ireland
    Death: Apr. 11, 1833
    Preble County
    Ohio, USA

Daniel Shields, s/o unknown parents, was born 04 April 1741 probably in Ireland. He married Mary [--?--], and they left Ireland 1791 for America.

According to his son's (Patrick) biography, the family settled for three years in Pennsylvania and then left Pennsylvania for Ohio where they settled for a time in Hamilton County, Ohio.

By 1807 Daniel was found in Lemon Township, Butler County, Ohio. By 1820 it appears that the father and three of his sons and their families relocated to Preble County, Ohio.
Daniel apparently spent his last years in Preble County, Ohio residing with his son, Isaac, and family.

Daniel's wife, Mary, appears to have died before 1830, but where is unknown, but perhaps in Butler County, Ohio where she and Daniel last signed a deed transferring ownership of their land in Hamilton County, Ohio. Or, perhaps she too was able to move to Preble County, Ohio and died there.

Daniel died 11 April 1833 in Preble County, Ohio.

Family legend indicates that they had three older sons (Daniel, Samuel, & John) who upon arrival left the family for Virginia and never heard from again. However, it appears that John Shields perhaps joined the family in Preble County, Ohio having married in Virginia and appears in records of Preble Co., OH. Their other three sons (Isaac, James, & Patrick) moved to Butler Co., Ohio and onto Preble County, Ohio with their families. The only daughter, Mary, probably married in Butler County, Ohio or Warren County, Ohio to John Sinkey and after his death to George Freeman.
