Taken from FOX FAMILY, a book compiled by George Henry Fox, New York, N.Y., 1931-32. G.S. call # 1321179. "In the spring of 1779 Daniel Fox having married a second wife, Elizabeth Gates, removed to New York and settled in Canaan in what is now Columbia County. After the death of his second wife, Sally Crittenden kept house for him for several years."

From "Thomas Fox of Concord and His Descendants", by William F. Fox (1909): Elizabeth Gates, the second wife of Daniel Fox, died while the family was living in Canaan, Daniel married a third time, his third wife being a Widow Winslow, who left him after living with him for a short time. One Sally Crittenden then kept house for him for about seven years, after which his daughter Luna--Luna Alger--who had previously been living at Hoosick with her brother Jehiel, assisted the old man as housekeeper for seven or eight years more. "His second wife having been dead some fourteen or fifteen years, he broke up housekeeping in Canaan and went to Chester, Warren County, N. Y., where his son Jehiel was living. From Chester he went to West Stockbridge, Mass., the home of his son, Hubbard Fox, at whose house he died. He was buried in the cemetery near Richmond Furnace."
