Research Notes

The Coleman data are from my cousins' research papers on the Coleman family. For most of the data, no sources were provided. I am confident in the majority of the data and will add sources. If the data cannot be backed up by a reliable source, I will remove the data.

Census Data

1830 Census

I have located an Elizabeth Langham in the 1830 census in Mobile County, Alabama. Daniel Coleman was probably living with his mother in 1830 in Mobile. Elizabeth Womack first married Benjamin Stephen Coleman; second she married Thomas Langham; third she married Enoch Stringfellow. Further research necessary to determine if the 1830 census finding is the correct Elizabeth Langham. Cousin M. replied to email 11 Jul 2009. Says that Elizabeth Langham was in Mobile and has some papers proving same; Cousin M. is mailing copies to me.

1840 Census

Daniel Coleman was enumerated in the 1840 U.S. Federal Census as D. W. Coleman, age 20 and under 30. There is another male in his household in the same age range. Only the heads of the household were named in the 1840 census. Other members of the household: 1 male under 5 - This must be his son Walter Coleman. Sons Philander and Benjamin Coleman were not born yet. 2 females under 5 - I suppose this must be his daughters Louisa and Mourning. However he has another daughter named Cornelia. One of the daughters is not listed. 1 female - 20 and under 30 - This would be his wife Hannah Pickett Coleman. Her maiden name was also Coleman.

Daniel Coleman had 3 slaves in his household. 1 male 10 < 24, 1 female 10 < 24, and 1 female 36 < 56
