Identity

There had long been a tradition among Daniel's descendants that their surname had originally been Foote. The History of Francestown notes that Daniel Foote, son of Stephen and Hannah Foote, was a twin and that he had changed legally changed his name to Bartlett. The record of Daniel's death clearly indicates that he was the son of Stephen Foote and Hannah Butterfield.

The various records concerning Daniel identify the name of his wife as Abigail Foster, Theresa Foster, Thorissa Foster, Mariah Foster, Maria Ramsey. Whether there are two or three wives, whether some of the records belong to another Daniel Bartlett; have been confused or are inaccurate; or whether the records do not reflect a legal marriage, needs to be sorted out.
