!BIOGRAPHY: Daniel, the fifteenth son of James Baker, was born at the Baker Homestead February 1, 1822. On October 2, 1844, he married Cornelia Howland, daughter of Elisha Howland of the town of Halfmoon. They purchased a farm near the Howland home, and here were born their nine children: Howland, John, Fayette, Louisiana, Martha, Powell, Maria, Minnie C., and Elisha K. Daniel was a successful farmer and his children were given a good education for that time. They all attended the Mechanicville Academy. He lived but a comparatively short life for he died on June 22, 1872, at the age of fifty. His widow carried on the management of the farm and lived to see her children grow up and most of them to marry and have homes of their own. She died on May 26, 1885. Both she and Daniel are buried in the 'Baker Cemetery, near the Baker Homestead. From Baker genelogy 2010 update: DANIEL BAKER, son of James (15) and Ruth (Post) Baker, b. Baker Cemetery, Stillwater, Saratoga Co., NY; He was a successful farmer and his children were given a good education for the time. They attended the Mechanicville Academy. Daniel was a democrat and owned two good farms, whose combined area was two hundred and twenty-four acres. He m. 2 Oct. 1844 CORNELIA HOWLAND, daughter of Elisha (b. 1777, d. 1859) and Rhoda (Powell) Howland (Elisha is of Dutch extraction whose lineage goes back to Henry Howland, Jr. who emigrated in 1623 on the Anne (sister ship of the Mayflower) and who was the brother of John Howland of the Mayflower; Elisha Howland of Halfmoon made will probated 18 Jul 1859 bk 19 pg 54) of town of Halfmoon, NY, b. NY per 1900 census ca. 1825; d. Halfmoon, Saratoga Co.,, NY 26 May. 1885 (aged 60 years); bur. Baker Cemetery, Stillwater, Saratoga Co., NY; She carried on the management of the farm when Daniel died; she was sister to Joseph Baker’s (177) wife, Rhoda Howland Note - Joe Cutshall-King has in his possession the Hymnal of Cornelia Howland Diane (Leggett) Saunders has in her possession the Bible of Cornelia Howland which was given to Minnie C Cassady by Samuel B. Howland in 1887 Note-the 1855 Census of the Town of Halfmoon lists Daniel age 33, his wife Cornelia age 30, children-Howland (age 9), John (age 7), Fayett (age 5), Louisanna (age 3), Martha (age 9 mos.) and Nicholas Herkimer (age 37) laborer (farmer born in Herk. Co.), James Kelly (age 21) laborer (born in Ireland) and Mary Morrison (age 18) servant (born in Ireland)
