Facts and Events
Daisy (Steele) Cheney was my grandmother. I recall a few stories my father used to relate about her. She and her husband, Will Cheney, were very active in the church choir. My grandmother taught piano and used a wooden ruler to crack across a student's hands when errors were made. Sundays were strictly observed with no activities for the kids. Daisy took her two young sons on a 6 month trip (by train) across Canada and into California (around 1920) to visit relatives who had moved west. I wonder if this trip was to help her recover from the death of her daughter, Pansy. My father always laughed when he recalled his mother saying "Butter up your end?" during large family meals.
