As the youngest of the three boys, Wade was a good follower and admirer of George's escapades and Howard's methodical workmanship. One time, at the age of four, Wade was curious what it would be like to be blind and pasted his eyes shut with chewing gum. When he tried to see again, the gum stuck to his eyelashes. He still can remember how his mother laughed as she repaired the damage. Wade and Lois met in high school and after a year at W. Va. University, quit school and went to work. They were married on Christmas Day 1937 and their first daughter, Donna, was born in October 1940. The day after Pearl Harbor, they bought their first house, and soon after Wade received 'greetings' from Uncle Sam and served as an Army meat inspector in New York City and Boston. After discharge in 1946, Wade went back to his previous job at a meat market and Lois was made supervisor at the State Office of the U. S. Dept. of Agriculture, Agricultural Conservation Program. Their second child was born in 1951 and Wade bought a small grocery store in Cheat Neck, WV. In 1961, Lois went to work as secretary at the U. S. Bureau of Mines. In 1967, Wade sold his store and began work in supply for the Dept. of the Army and R.O.T.C. program. In 1977, he was transferred to an army Facilities Engineers group which provided support for Army Reserve units in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. In 1980, both Wade and Lois retired.
