I, Janie, have no documented proof that Cullen is David and Elizabeth's son but am convinced that he is because of his many connections with this family and the fact that he fits in David and Elizabeth's 1830 and 1840 census records. Also, his widow was found in 1880 in Texas surrounded by David's descendants. I have not found him in the 1850 records. He may have been out of the parent's household by then. Though he didn't marry until 1856 he was buying property by 1851. Elisha Jackson, probable brother, was surety for Cullen's marriage.

19 Jan 1854 $600 reward for C. W. Jackson who murdered Willis W. Richards Dec 24, 1853. Madison TN. It looks like he was cleared of these charges because no record is found of him being jailed and later it was found in Nancy (Fulfer) Richardson Notebook about Cullen's brothers-in-law: "Elizabeth Richards brothers were: Noff, Redding who made a fortune but had no intelligence, "Buck" was an outlaw who was killed by Cullen Jackson." Barbara Crumpton's interview with Ike Carrell: "In 1879 Cullen was shot in the stomach in his field; thought to have been a suicide. In the 1920s postmaster in Ben Franklin received a telephone call from a Mr. Richards in Madison County, Tennessee searching for descendants of Cullen. They returned the call to learn that the man's father, on his death bed, had confessed to coming down to Lamar County where he shot Cullen in revenge for murder of Willis Richards."

From '1870-1880 MORTALITY SCHEDULES OF LAMAR COUNTY, TEXAS,' compiled by Mary Stinson Claunch Lane, Paris, TX: Precinct 2, Page 1, SD 2, ED 74; No. 304; "Jackson, Cullen W.; 51 year old white male, married; born in Tenn.; father born in N.C.; mother born in Tenn.; farmer; died in Jul; cause - Gunshot wound in bowels, supposed suicide; resident of county 48 years."

Therefore, Cullen was brought to Lamar County as a child in 1831. - which does not agree with the above census records at all!
