Resting at the home of his daughter, the funeral notice appears elsewhere in this edition From the Belleville Intelligencer; 20 October, 1952, page 2S9: Clifford Sine (Frankford) A truly great Canadian was laid to rest in Gananoque this Monday, Mr. Clifford Sine, age 85, passed away in Belleville General Hospital last week, and with his death, Canada lost a man of whom she can be truly proud. Mr. Since will be perhaps, best remembered as the one who proposed the "Trillium" as Ontario's provincial flower. His many friends in Frankford, where he spent his last years, never tired of hearing tell of looking from his cottage window, along the St. Lawrence River, and seeing the woods with its carper of white trilliums. Mr. Sine, a retired druggist, was born in the village of Wallbridge, five miles east of Frankfort, where his father was a school teacher. He served his druggist apprenticeship with Parker and Butler in Stirling, completing his training at the Ontario College of Pharmacy. He worked in drug stores in London and Clarksburg, finally spending 46 years as druggist in Gananoque. While in Gananoque, he was one of the founders of the "Half Moon Bay" Church. This unique Sunday worship service during the summer months, is held for the benefit of the many tourists in the district. The congregation sits in their boats in Half Moon Bay, while the minister delivers his sermon and leads in worship from the shore. Mr. Sine was a Sunday School teacher leading a boys' class in the Methodist, later United Churches, and during his leadership, over three hundred boys passed through his class. He kept a record of every boy he had ever taught. He was acive in the IOOF, also the Lions Club, of which he was an honorary member, and one of the oldest Lions in Canada. He was Division Court Clerk in Gananoque for many years and always an active leader in community work. Among his many hobbies, was his large stamp collection, which gained recognition among many noted Canadians also interested in collecting. It may truly be said of Clifford Sine as he goes to his reward, that he left every place he visited better than he found it. References
