Clement French Taylor was the second of four sons of Edward Payson Taylor and Frances Pearce Holt. He was named in honor of the Rev. J. Clement French, the second pastor of the Central Congregational Church of Brooklyn, New York, where his parents and maternal grandparents were leading members.

Notes

Clement French Taylor is found in the 1900 US Census living in Rockville Centre Village, Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, with his wife Almette R. Taylor (married in 1887), and his son Clement French Taylor, Jr. (born in 1892). The same family group is found in Brooklyn (1045 Coney Island Ave) in the 1910 US Census. Curiously, the 1930 US Census shows a Clement F. Taylor, age 35, living in Brooklyn (2167 Bedford Ave, near Prospect Park) with his wife Almette R. Taylor(!), age 28, and a son Clement F., Jr., age 9. Either by amazing coincidence he married a woman with the same unusual name as his mother, or else there was some mistake or misunderstanding with the census taker, confusing his mother's name for his wife's name. The Clement F. Taylor Jr. born in 1892 was listed as single on his June 1917 WWI draft card, and on his 1942 WWII draft card, he listed a Miss Lilian Clark as his personal contact (no wife?).
