"Clement1 Chaplin, bp. (Semer) 5 June 1593; m. Rushock [Rushbrooke], co. Suffolk. 5 May 1618. Sarah Ignes or Hindes/Hinds. Clement received a messuage in Churchgate Street, Bury. St. Edmunds in the will of his father-in-law, Robert Ignes, goldsmith, of Bury St. Edmunds in 1631/2. Clement arrived in New England on the Elizabeth & Ann in 1635. Matthias Candler wrote that 'Clement Chaplaine was a chandler in Bury. He went to New England & was one of the elders in the Congregation there w[he]re Mr. Hooker was minister.' Clement settled first in Cambridge, then Hartford and Wethersfield. He returned to England, dying in Thetford, Norfolk, between 16 Aug. and 23 Sept. 1656. the dates of the execution and probate of his will. No children are mentioned in his will, but his wife Sarah was bequeathed 'all my houses and lands ... in Harford and Weathersfield in New England.' Clement also mentions his kinsman Mr. William Parke of Roxbury. Mass."
