CHARLES CITY — Clayton L. Martin, 75, of Charles City, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services for Clayton Martin will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, and Tuesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Clayton LeRoy Martin was born on Nov. 24, 1937, at Mason City, the son of William and Minda (Askelson) Martin. He graduated from Charles City High School. Clayton proudly served in the United States Marines.

On Sept. 4, 1957, he was united in marriage to Doris Springer. Clayton worked for 30 years at John Deere in Waterloo. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, UAW 838 and past member of the Moose and Elks Lodge.

Clayton looked forward to going fishing, going to flea markets, watching boxing and playing the slots.

Family was important to Clayton and he looked forward to spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include four children: Susan (Mike) Hyland of Colwell, Shelia (David) Hill of West Des Moines, Linn Martin of Charles City and Stacey (Dan) Corrigan of Cedar Falls; a daughter-in-law, Shelly Martin of Charles City; 11 grandchildren: Stephanie Riles, Robert and Katie Hardiman, Taylor, David and Chrystena Hill, Cassandra, Sara and Jennifer Martin, and Nathan and Matthew Corrigan; and two brothers: Eli (Gladys) Martin of Ashland, Ky., and Harlan (Kelly) Martin of Donnelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Martin; a granddaughter, Khristina Riles; two brothers: Alvin and William Martin; and four sisters: Frances Griffen, Bertha Barr, Cleatus Beal and Irene Martin.
