Claude, the fifth son of Martin Benoist and Marie Chaussegros, had 11 children. Seven were deported to Massachusetts, three found refuge in Québec, and one escaped the Deportation in present day New Brunswick. Most of those deported to Massachusetts who survived into the 1760s made their way either to New Brunswick or Québec with their families and are the ancestors of most of the Benoits living today in these regions.
