Martha Fidler's "The Black Family History" written in 1970's

Cousin Cindy Pratt wrote in April 2011: My cousin, Rae Petersen, forwarded a copy of her email with you.

Cyrena Black and Oscar Blount are my Great-great-great-grandparents.

Back in the 1980's Betsy Jones and Kurt Hillig revived the Black Family Reunion and we met with other descendants biannually at the Hillsdale County Fair Grounds, Hillsdale, MI. I think we stopped gathering in the late 90's. Kurt always brought a huge family tree that was posted on the walls for everyone to study and update.

Martha Fidler, Betsy's older sister, researched, wrote, and printed "History of the Harvey Black Family." I have a copy and could send you a copy of the brief narrative from the beginning of her book. (The document is 115 pp. in length and contains a listing of all descendants she was aware of up to the early 70's.) Unfortunately, Martha is no longer living.

Harvey Black and Olive Powers had eight children. Five were born in New York State and the other three in Ohio. Clarinda, the 7th child, would've been born in OH.

Martha"s short narrative about Clarinda:

"Clarinda was born in 1826. She married William Leonard. They lived in Jefferson Township where five children were born. The first being a daughter, Mary Ette, who died before her third birthday. She is buried in the Taylor Cemetery. Their other children were Benjamin, Clara, Burton and Finley. They moved to Olkahoma sometime after 1860 and before 1879. I have been unable to get any response to letters to Finley's grandchildren, so if anyone finds out anything of this family, would you please let me know?"

The descendant section lists Ova (birthdate not listed) as a child of Finley Leonard. The children of Ova (spouse not listed) are Clyde, Billy Dean, and Bobby Gene (birthdates not listed).

Handed down from my Grandmother, I have a photograph of the 1907 Black Family Reunion. None of the names I acquired at a reunion in the 1980's correlate to any of your ancestors. There are no Leonards listed among the attendees. However, I could probably make a copy of the picture if you're interested.
