All of Clara's siblings were recorded as Langing in the church records but Clara was shown as Lauging. The spelling of Clara's family name is shown several different ways. Her grandfather Johann Caspar first recorded it as Johann Caspar "of the Lage." A reference to the family land which is shown as Lage or Laging. From that point the name is usually recorded in Germany as Langing. In the U.S. the name was usually shown as Lauging. Although Langing and Laging do show up.
