Clara Gunby (1839-1890), daughter of Col. John Gunby and Charlotte Somers Gunby, was an outspoken southern sympathizer who was jailed during the Civil War for defiance and disrespect toward Union troops. She was held prisoner at Fortress Monroe, located in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Post-Civil War, Ms. Gunby married Mr. William M. Huffington and resided on a farm in the vicinity of Allen, Maryland.
