Her mother, Katharina Zirn, died in Switzerland in a cholora epidemic when she was 9, and her father, Chespoores John Ottenbacher, took her back to Germany and gave her to her uncle, George Ottenbacher, and his wife, Barbara, to raise along with their 4 children, ages 1-8. They later had 2-3 more children
  14. They may be her aunt and uncle. (Elmer Junker's Ottentbacher Genealogy & Ehrman's Ottenbacher Descendants).
