Facts and Events
Chesley Dugger was born ca 1781/1782 per his age on the 1850 census (68). He was born in North Carolina per the same source. If he is a son of John Dugger as believed, then he was probably born in Granville Co., NC.
Chesley and his wife Sarah witnessed a deed from John Dugger to Jacob Meaks dated 30 Jan 1809. This strongly suggests that John was his father, or perhaps even his grandfather. (Brunswick Co., NC Deed Book A page 22). It isn't certain whether this deed was for John Dugger (c1741) or his probable son John Dugger (Jr) (1760/70). Either one of them could be Chesley's father.
Chesley was listed on the 1810 census in Columbus Co., NC (which was formed in 1808 from Brunswick). For some reason no adult male was listed at home. He may have been off in Georgia scouting out a place to live.
