Charlotte Harris Hicks Gunn. Her first husband, George W. Hicks, died at age 21 in the Civil War. Charlotte was granted a pension of $8 per month for the care of her child via a certificate dated 9 Mar 1864, but commencing retroactively on 20 Jul 1863, the date of her husband's death. [Certificate no. 55,834] A pension increase of $2 was approved on 10 Feb 1874.

Following the death of Perry in July 1890, Charlotte again received a pension of $8, plus $2 for the care of daughter Grace, commencing 26 Jul 1890.

After the Renewal Act of 3 Mar 1901, she made a claim for the restoration of her earlier pension and received approval to get $12 per month commencing 20 May 1903.

Charlotte didn't have good luck -- her first husband, son and daughter all died young; her second husband (Perry) died at age 53 from a kidney disease. Charlotte herself died at age 66 of breast cancer. Life was hard, disease was rampant, and death was often early in the 1800s.
