    CHARLES J. FAIN (Republican), Representative from Taney County, was born September 26. 1919, in Chandler, Arizona. Attended the School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Missouri; Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri; Drury College, Springfield, Missouri; School of Law, University of Missouri. Has an LL.B. Degree. He was married to Miss Lenore Brown of Kirbyville, Missouri, on August 16, 1942. They have two children— Karen Lenore Fain, age 7, and Charles Baxter Fain, age 5. He is a practicing attorney in the firm of Fain and Burnett, Branson, Missouri. During World War II was a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force, serving as a combat navigator in the Central Pacific Theater of Operations.     Charles was born September 26, 1919, in Mesa, Arizona, the son of Phillip B. and Spicie Melton Fain.

    He was married in August, 1943, in Reno, Nevada to Lenore M. Brown.

    He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a navigator on a B-24. He received the purple heart.

    Charles graduated from the School of the Ozarks in Branson, Mo. and later received his law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1951, and received his master's degree in law from George Washington University in 1956.

    Charles served two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives while in law school representing Taney County, holding the office of Speaker Pro-Tem from 1950, until 1954. In 1955, he became the chairman of the N.R.E.C.A in Washington, D.C., under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, where he lobbied for the successful dam system of the White River, siting Tablerock Dam at Branson, Mo. which created Tablerock Lake.

    Charles' legal career extended from 1951, until his retirement in 2004, practicing both in Branson with Clifford Crouch and Peter H. Rea, and in Jefferson City with his son, and in the 1990's, he served as assistant prosecuting attorney in Taney County. He also served on the Missouri Public Service Commission under his old classmate, Governor Warren E. Hearnes from 1965 until 1977.

    He was a member of the Missouri Bar Assn.; a member of the Branson Lions Club; and a past member of Meadow Lake Acres Country Club.

    He received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the School of the Ozarks. Charles was a self taught builder all of his life; building several of his own homes. In the 1970's, he developed "Fainwood Sub-Division" on Frog Hollow Road while also restoring a historic building on Madison Street, both in Jefferson City. He completed a final home in Branson while in his seventies.

    He remained quite active in his later years, continuing to golf and bowl several times a week.

    Charles passed on January 14, 2009, age 89 years, at the Golden Living Center, Jefferson City, Mo.
