Charles Seabrook was born in 1870 at Markyate in the parish of Flamstead, Hertfordshire, son of a bonnet sewer called Eliza Seabrook, formerly Burgess, and her husband Robert Seabrook, a farm labourer. He appears in the 1871 census living at 32 London Road in Markyate with his parents and siblings. Shortly after that, the family left Markyate and moved a few miles east to Harpenden, where the 1881 census finds the family living at Hatching Green, beside the White Horse public house.
By 1891 they had moved again to Cravells Road, and Charles was working as a stud groom. Later that year, he married Clara Nicholls, who was from the neighbouring parish of Wheathampstead. They settled on Cravells Road and had nine children together between 1891 and 1913. Charles worked as a bricklayer's labourer.
Charles died on 7th December 1932 at the West Hertfordshire Hospital in Hemel Hempstead, aged 62. Clara outlived him by just under three years.
