– Report of Viewers of the Road from Golconda to Franklin Courthouse: “We the undersigned have reviewed and marked the within described Road leaving the Kakaskia road about 100 yards, this side of quarrel Creek, and thence by J. A. Whiteside Esq. And old Mr. Johnson’s and we think favourable of the Road.”

This is the only time the "Jr." suffix has been applied to Charles Johnson, apparently to distinguish him from the "old" Mr. Johnson, presumably his father. Unlike Charles Jr., "old" Mr. Johnson was probably too old to be included on the work crew
