    Maj. Charles Connor Hume, born Feb. 1 1842, was in the Army of the Southern Confederacy, and for important and daring service was greatly distinguished, and promoted from the ranks to the position of Major in the Regular Army of the Confederacy. He enjoyed the confidence, esteem, and friendship of Generals Robert E. Lee and J. E. B. Stuart. He was killed in discharge of his duty in Charles County, Maryland, May 20, 1863, near Pickewaxen Church, at which place he was buried.
