Facts and Events
Name Charles Hanton
Gender Male
Marriage to _____ Stebbins
Death? Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario, Canada

Marriage certificate for Charles' son, John Thomas Hanton, listed father's name as "Charles Anton". John Thomas' residence at the time was 18 Joseph St., Bradford, York County, England. This may have been Charles' residence at that time, as well. Charles' profession was listed as "stoker." John Thomas, at the time of his wedding (28 July 1877), was 19 years old. This would imply that Charles was married, at the latest, in 1857.

A letter from Enice Hanton Nemec (see L-5 in file of John Thomas Hanton, 1857) indicates that Charles had another son named "Dave" (or at least Dave is referred to as a brother of John Thomas Hanton). That same letter stated that there was a Mrs. Emma Stebbins, a sister of John Thomas Hanton, who lived at 3 Burley St., Bolton Woods, Bradford, Yorkshire (however, it does not explain how John Thomas Hanton had a sister whose married surname happened to be the same as his mother's maiden name).

The marriage certificate for John Thomas Hanton and Eliza Bravery lists a Charles Stebbings as a witness--related?

According to Minnie Hanton Scott, as related in a letter from Enice Hanton Nemec, Charles went to live with his son, John Thomas Hanton, in Cornwall, Ontario, after Charles' wife died. He lived in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, from that time until his death. It appears that he came to live with them after 1881. (The family moved from Bradford to Cornwall between June, 1881 and December, 1882.) He must have died between 1901 (when Minnie was 3 -- she remembered him living with the family) and July, 1905 when Nina was born, since she was born after the family moved to Chatham, New Brunswick.
