  3. 3.0 3.1 Obituary in Ft. Payne Times-Journal, 14 November 1961:
    " Mr. Charles F. Gray, age 78, of Valley Head passed away Friday morning, Nov. 10th, at the Dekalb County Hospital. A retired farmer and a life-long resident of Dekalb County, he had lived in Valley Head for the last forty years. He was a member of the Violet Hill Baptist Church.

    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joe [sic] Payne Gray, Valley Head; three sons, Carl of Valley Head, J.C. of Memphis, Charles Jr. of Valley Head; five daughters, Mrs. Pearl Harwood of Ft. Payne, Mrs. Ruby Gilford, Mrs. Estelle Hale and Mrs. Helen Hale of Valley Head, and Mrs. Ada Lee Gibbs of Geraldine; 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Funeral services were held Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Violet Hill Baptist Church with Revs. J.B. Cord, ll, Robert White and W.J. Heflen officiating.

    Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home directing."
