The young Bathgate lady upped sticks and took up nursing, probably in WW2, in Glasgow where she met and married a merchant seaman.

Family followed a couple of years later but in 1954 she packed up again and headed to Thomson Falls in Kenya where she set to and made the best of the non existent home comforts. When she wasnt at home, she was nursing in the local hospital.

Given that they were living in the shadow of the constant Mau Mau threat, they were dangerous times and she learned to use a firearm. So, the "young lady about (Glasgow) town" had to double up as gun toting dame about town.
