Obituary for Orpha Romilda Sykes Orpha R (nee Elliott) Sykes, AGE 93, of Lawrenceburg, IN, passed away August 3, 2012.
She was born Aug 30, 1918 in Lawrenceburg, IN to the late Harry and Mayme (nee Williamson) Elliott. She married Carl Stanley Sykes and they had four children: Bob, Phyllis, Mary Lou, and Sharon. She had worked as an receptionist for Seagram's Distillery, however most of her time enjoyed playing piano, attending church and taking care of family and friends. She was a great cook and she had the best Chocolate Chip cookie recipe. Orpha was a member at First Baptist Church, Greendale, IN and then Dearborn Hills Methodist, Bright, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl S., her son and daughter in law Bob and Lora Sykes, two brothers: Loren and Aaron Elliott and a sister Jean Stackhouse.
Survivors include her loving children: [names of living individuals have been removed] and her two grandchildren [names of living individuals have been removed] whom she raised as her children; 10 more beloved grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and a devoted sister Lois Parker.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM in Brater Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St. Harrison. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday at 10 AM in the funeral home with Jill Croswell officiating. Burial to follow at Gibson Cemetery
