[From 1989 letter from Genevieve Jauch Glunz to Dorothy Hemann:] "He was missing from home; in those days, women came to some people's homes and told them things about happenings (fortune tellers). This woman told Grandma (Pauline Jauch) that in the spring when the boats went out, they would find their son (Fred) and sure enough it came true-- he was in the Erie Canal wedged under a boat. ... I am not sure if he (Fred) was married but I do remember Aunt Mary saying that someone had died and people got the person mixed up because there was a Louis Jauch and a Louis-- so the only person that she could be was Fred's wife or Louis' second wife, and I'm not sure."

NOTE: There is a Margaret Jauch, widow, age 49, in the 1910 census living at 506 Goodyear Avenue, in the 12th ward. Three of her five living children are living with her: Mathias (18), Joseph (16), Anthony (12). But that would make her born 1861, ten years the senior of Carl Friederich. I think she must be the widow of some other JAUCH.
