Caleb Spencer, youngest son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Bates) Spencer, was born in the prish of Westbrook, town of Saybrook June [see top of page, reads January] 19, 1695-6. He was commissioned Ensign of the Train Band, and was chosen surveyor of Highways Dec. 12, 1732. He was a man of considerable means and owned several slaves, which he divided among his children at his death. By his wife Hannah (__) Caleb Spencer had [eight children]. Caleb Spencer married, second, Temperance Wright, by whom he had no issue.
