He graduated from the Morris High School in 1923. He attended the International Correspondence School graduating from the Accounting department. From 1922-25 he was a clerk at the Rexall Drug Store in Morris, Illinois. He was employed from 1925 to 1943 by the I.N.R. Beatty Lumber Co., from 1925-28 as the bookkeeper at the Morris office, from 1928-38 as the Controller at the General office in Morris, and from 1938-43 as manager of the Morris operation. From 1943-1969 he was a franchised Culligan Dealer, in Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Glendale, California.
