Bertha's parents were from Austria and arrived in the USA in the 1890's. The following is the obit from The Des Moines Register of William "Bil" H. Wilfon, Des Moines, who was the brother of Bertha Wilfon McLuen. William "Bill" H. Wilfon, 92, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Iowa Veterans Hospital. Services will be 12 p.m. Monday, February 9 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in the Campaigns of Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Southern France, Rhinelad and Central Europe. He was decorated with the Victory Medal, European Africa Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the Silver Battle Star, the Bronze Service Arrowhead, five Overseas Service Bar, one service stripe and the Good Conduct Medal. Bill was in car sales for Howlett Chevrolet and was a member of the American Legion Post 60. He is survived by his sister, Bertha McLuen of Indianola, nephew, William Curran of Kenosha, WI and brother-in-law, Wayne Chapman of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his seven sisters, one brother and by his wife of 63 years, Jean A. Chapman Wilfon just five weeks prior to his death. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the family in loving memory of Bill. References
